Monday Tips || 26.05.2014

Bank Holiday weekends are great, especially if you're wedding planning...you can spend your Saturday rallying around trying to tick things off your never ending to-do lists and still have Sunday and Monday to relax. They are also perfect for Weddings when you have family and friends attending who don't live nearby, they may be travelling back home on the Sunday but they have the Monday to recover.

For today's Monday Tip's post I thought I'd take the opportunity to discuss the weather, seeing as we've had a bit of a miserable Bank Holiday.

There are probably a zillion things you have considered when trying to set the date for your wedding, I can guarantee that the weather was quite high up on your list if you decided on a date between May - September. If, like many Bride & Grooms chose 24th May 2014 because it was a Bank Holiday you probably assumed you'd have a sunny, warm and dry day. So it might not have been freezing cold on Saturday but it rained on and off for most of the day; not ideal for the Brides needing to make their way from their house to the wedding car, to the church and back to the wedding car and out again to get in to the reception venue (think Hair, Dress and Shoes). It can also be quite disappointing if you'd planned on having most of your photo's taken outside.

But it doesn't have to be the end of the world. A little bit of prior planning means you'll have a plan for whatever the weather decides to throw at you on the big day.

Towels
Now you might think I'm crazy, but if your dad is coming with you in the wedding car - send him out in his rain coat to wipe down the doors to the wedding car before you get in. The last thing you want it for your gorgeous dress to brush against the wet door and for you to have dirty patches on your dress as you walk down the aisle.

Umbrellas
Buy pretty umbrella's for you and each of your Bridesmaids, they will save you hair and make-up when you need to step outside. I've yet to find a company locally to sell these, but I know they do exist online. I've seen a few wedding photo's where the Bride has a vintage brolly in the pics and they look lovely. I've also seen a photo where each bridesmaid has a different coloured brolly, a simple touch but it does make a great photo.

Your Photographer
The chances are your photographer has been to the venue countless times for weddings, but whenever I've met with a couple who were using a photographer I hadn't worked with before - I'd suggest they ask him to visit us so he could have a nosey around the Hotel and grounds. I find that photographers will see a photo opportunity in places I would never have imagined; it's also a chance for photographers to plan ahead and see where they will get best lighting if we do get rain and they need to take photo's insides. If your photographer already has a plan it can save you so much time and worry on the day.

Don't worry about it
The weather will do whatever it wants to do without any consideration for a contingency plan. If you wake up on the morning of your Wedding and find you have glorious sunshine - BONUS! (we had a fabulously sunny day in February). But, if you planned your wedding for the August Bank Holiday and it starts teaming down while you're having your hair and make up done - then so be it. Take a deep breath and just go with it. No it's not ideal but it isn't the end of the world. If you've got your brolly's and your photographer has found a great little spec for photo's inside your venue then you're covered. You still get to walk down the aisle and become Mr&Mrs and your friends and family will still be there to celebrate with you.

Obviously, I've based this post on typical Welsh Weather...for more extreme weather like Snow or a Hurricane then I would consider more specific wedding insurance incase you need to re-schedule the whole day.

Happy Monday Everyone.

Gemma xx
