I spent a while trying to decide what I should include in my first ever "Monday Tip" but then I realised that it was quite obvious - I should start right at the beginning.
When you first engaged it's such an exiting time, the congratulations come flooding in and almost everyone wants to know when you're getting married or who you've chosen as your bridesmaids. There is absolutely no harm in that. But before you know it you're swept up in all the wedding planning I think most people lose sight of what has just happened.
The love of your life just asked you to marry him, he's just basically told you he wants to spend the rest of his life with you - that in itself is amazing and is something worth celebrating.
I can only tell you things from my perspective and from my budget, but I'm glad with what we did and we way we did it.
One of the first things we decided on was when we were going to get married. Did we want a long engagement? Did we want a summer or a winter wedding? Once we decided on those simple things we took off for a few days away to a Hotel and Spa. We planned our imaginary wedding, who would wear what, where we would get married, what we would eat and where we would honeymoon. It was lovely to chat nonsense and not have to rush in to the nitty gritty of wedding planning straight away. It felt nice to chat about our wedding and have unrealistic plans that we knew we could never afford or that no one in our family would be on board with. It was light-hearted and it was fun. I think we learnt a lot about what we wanted for our real wedding during that trip away, we laid down the ground work. Although I think I spent the entire time staring at she shiny ring on my finger.
I know that this might not be everyone's cup of tea, but when I look back I am so glad this is what we chose to do. If you're sitting there wondering "this is hardly a tip is it" then you're missing my point. Which is...remember you're not just having a Wedding Day - you're getting married to your best friend.
