Supplier Profile || Celebration Events

Today I really do have that Friday feeling, having a great end to my week - in my personal life and on the blog. We've so much coming up over the next few months, which might make things a bit quiet on here as I work on things "behind the scenes" but I think (well I hope) it will be worth it.

Today I introduce someone to the blog, who is quite honestly doesn't need to be introduced. With her business empire expanding and her being the Lady behind the Wedding Fayre's at Venue Cymru; you'd have to be from Mars not to have heard about her. Of course I am talking about Rhian Hastings.

Saturday, May 17th 2014, saw my little ‘Saturday morning job’ turn 7 years old! When I re-read this statement I have to stop and re-read, and then re-read it again…how have 7 years flown passed? Where did the 7 years go? It makes me reminisce and think back over the last 7 years, how did it start, and where did it all begin? Well here goes…..

On Friday 28th July 2006, on our 6month anniversary, my now hubby, and I set off for a romantic meal to celebrate our first 6months together….little did I know he had a HUGE surprise in store! After a yummy meal and a few cheeky drinks, he began to fumble around in his pocket before getting on bended knee in a restaurant full of people, where he proceeded to ask me to marry him…..after the surprise sunk in, and numerous requests for him to ‘get up’ I said YES!

From that moment on we broke our news to family and friends and the planning wheels were truly set in motion. We visited venues, read countless magazines and surfed the internet looking for ideas and inspiration. Finally we set a date. A year to the date from his proposal, Saturday 28th July 2007.  The planning went well and hubby, as instructed by his future mother in law ‘nodded and smiled’ in all the right places when I expressed my desire for this and that for our big day. Wedding  fayres were attended and it was at these fayres, and in countless images, I came across chair covers! Chair covers? Everyone asked – what are chair covers? You see 7 years ago, chair covers were still a VERY new concept and were very rarely seen at weddings and events.

Chair covers became my obsession, and to make matters worse, there were no local companies offering chair covers. The nearest were in Chester and at a whopping £5 something a chair the answer was no! However, as persistent as I am, the mother found a supplier who was willing to hire the chair covers, sashes, table cloths and vases to us at a price he (under the mothers pressure) was willing to agree to. That was that, our order was booked in!

But….that wasn’t it….speaking to the mother about getting the venue dressed on the morning of the wedding had sparked ideas off in the mother’s head……and that’s it, as they say ‘the rest is history’ or in our case’ wouldn’t that be a lovely little Saturday morning job’.

My Saturday morning job, is a 24hour a day, 7 day a week job…weddings aren’t just held on Saturday’s! Chair covers need washing, drying, ironing, counting, storing and collecting. Brides like to meet you, see your products and colours. Venues cannot guarantee access to you the day before the wedding so you can dress the event yourself in plenty of time. Myself, and my team work tirelessly to ensure items are prepped and events are dressed – whether it be midnight, 5am, 6am or returning to a venue to turn the room around from a wedding ceremony to a wedding breakfast or to dismantle an event to ensure you take home all the items you provided for that event….did you know drunk people love feathers and sashes, no matter their age J

Despite the hard work, of which there is lots, and the sleepless nights, there are lots of them too! I love my job, I love the people I meet! Some will always be unforgettable - Mickey’s Nana losing her scissors whilst prepping the flowers or, Rhian & her Mum Linda who were the most fun in the planning stages and on the day or to each and every bride for entrusting us, and honouring us by letting us be a part of their big day.

Our hard work paid off when, as voted for by our brides and grooms, we were awarded ‘The Welsh National Wedding Award for Best Venue Dressers in North Wales 2013’ followed by ‘Conwy Business Person of the Year 2014’ only last week!

So to finish, Thank you to all our couples, past and present for the last 7 years….here are to the next 7 years!
